Rulegolfing Software

Designed for targeted cellular automata work

RuleEngineers is built for rulegolfing workflows where you define a target pattern or behavior, test the current rule, and shape the dynamics according to your desires.

Create an evolutionary sequence

Draw a pattern in the Rule Editor, and edit the rules by changing later generation panels to reach your target behavior.

Preview every iteration

The Pattern Viewer lets you check whether the rule behaves correctly and if any unexpected patterns appear.

Main workflow

Paint, simulate, and rulegolf your way closer.

The right side is the inline rule editor. Modifying the patterns displayed in G1+ changes the rule to accommodate that result. The greyed out cells are locked, so each edit is a deliberate rulegolfing step instead of breaking the progress you already made. RuleEngineers is built for this kind of advanced rulegolfing workflow.
